I think the idea of "abiogenesis" is kind of flawed. like the category of non-living things and it also implies a stratified metaphor which is also leaking. we need to rediscover and reevalute hidden assumptions. that's mostly the reason we are stuck.

i’m a bit annoyed by the strong “ai can’t ever be made to think/feel” stance but he kind of substantiates that. the usual flawed argument for it is “only brains produce thought” which imo is nonsense. but his argument is “thoughts produce only brains”. so “artificial” consciousness needs abiogenesis

Oh Dan you into this stuff, a lovely surprise. i have been a fan of kastrup but since being exposed to different thinkers my conceptions changed quite a lot. I think he makes important distinctions but find himself more abstract than he might initially wanted to be.

In your two computers post you use the terms early/later, that carries a metaphor of process into this, which i like. prior/posterior might be even better, because they can carry less connotations.

okay hot take RSC is like Presentational and Container components but you put all your Container components close to the backend so that you can get all their data in a single roundtrip
