This is so shameful.

For those not watching council today, as you'll see below Mark Sutcliffe is pulling the same EXACT tactics as Jim Watson would in the last council, pulling the rug out from under councillors and trying to derail debate at the last possible moment.

Extremely problematic motion from Councillor David Brown and new Osgoode Ward councillor Isabelle Skalski who want staff to look into options to privatize parts of our public transit system.

The only way we will improve the system is by investing in it not selling it off.

Last year, along with several other community members we pursued a lawsuit against the Ottawa Police Services Board for implementing bylaws that significantly deterred public participation in meetings to hold police accountable.

Tomorrow is the first day of our court hearing:

The transphobic loser and grifter who has come and harassed Ottawa schools for two years running is coming back.

Time once again for the community to stand up against hate and remind them theyre not welcome here - thanks to
@csottawa.bsky.social for organizing this pushback.

Kudos to community members in #Ottawa who disrupted this anti-trans event at the Main Branch of the Ottawa Library and shame on the OPL for allowing this to happen.

As an institution thats been supportive of the LGBTQ+ community this is disappointing.

They need to apologize.

Today is the commemoration of the QC Mosque shooting and I'm thinking about my Muslim friends and how Islamophobia has gotten worse here in Ottawa and across Canada.

I'm thinking about how the safety of Jews, Muslims and everyone else is intertwined.

We need to keep organizing together.

Just remember that this happened under a Liberal government.
January 28, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Not a conincidence one of the few #ottcity councillors to oppose an anti-renovictions bylaw this morning is David Hill who accepted close to 45% of his 2022 campaign donations from those connected to the development industry and is a frequent cheerleader for GOHBA, a prominent developer lobby group.
January 22, 2025 at 4:17 PM
The fact that any politician, organization, faith leader, journalist or individual feels the need to defend this will haunt me for the rest of my days.

What's even more terrifying is that they think it's the "principled stance" to take - it really sends shivers down your spine.

Another casualty of the vibecession

Glad to see that at least some councillors voted against the Ottawa Police budget.

We have a lot more work to do.

The YMCA in Collingwood, ON posted abt International Day of Solidarity with Palestine and it was instantly labeled "antisemitic" by pro-Israel members of the Jewish community.

Just overt anti-Palestinian racism and an absolute perversion of the ACTUAL fight against antisemitism.
December 9, 2024 at 12:15 AM
Palestine solidarity organizers usually have a march and rally in downtown #ottcity every weekend but this weekend they decided to join the picket for @cupwsttp.bsky.social postal workers.

The solidarity between the labour and Palestine solidarity movement continues to grow stronger ✊

Last Friday, I spoke at a press conference with
Justice for All Canada on behalf of @ijvcanada.bsky.social.

Among other things, I spoke about repression of protest by
Ottawa Police and called out groups like CIJA for spreading misinformation about protests and advocating for even more repression.

Hey folks - exciting news!

Horizon Ottawa is now on Bluesky, give em a follow especially if you are not on Twitter anymore so you can still stay up to date on our activism as well as what is happening at #ottcity hall!

Heard that Michael Polowin is set to be appointed as a new member of the Ottawa Police Board.

He is well known for conflating criticism of Israel as antisemitism (as can be seen below).

He also notably served as the lawyer for Timbercreek during the Heron Gate mass evictions.

This is important.

Fare evasion is often presented as this "epidemic" and a justification as to why we don't have enough revenue but OC Transpo barely collects any money from fare evasion (less than $2M/year).

Money from fare evasion barely pays for fare inspectors themselves.
November 25, 2024 at 6:31 PM
Absolutely ridiculous stat used by OC Transpo GM this morning to argue that our transit pass isn't as expensive as other cities, citing "average fares" which includes discount passes.

This is how desperate they are to justify their massively unpopular fare increases.
November 25, 2024 at 3:46 PM
Follow Horizon Ottawa on Twitter (i know sorry were working on getting to bluesky) this morning for details on the transit budget being discussed this morning.

Hint: it's not good.
November 25, 2024 at 2:37 PM
They just arrested one of the leaders of PYM here in #Ottawa on the spot while she was alone

This is nothing more than intimidation from Ottawa Police.

They way they've been acting this week is unhinged - local leaders need to call this out.
November 24, 2024 at 5:25 PM
Someone arrested again at a Palestine solidarity protest and reports of Ottawa Police being aggressive and not allowing protesters their right to take to the streets according to
Palestinian Youth Movement in #ottcity

Join for jail support at OPS HQ - second time this week. Shameful.
November 23, 2024 at 11:18 PM
Man, there is truly no one as shameless as the Ottawa Police.

Their gaslighting is an art form.
November 20, 2024 at 3:19 AM
Jail support happening NOW at OPS HQ.

4 people arrested during a Palestine solidarity protesters now Ottawa Police again threatening arrest for using a sound system - organizers having to call in a lawyer.

Egregious breach of rights by OPS. This is what $400M+ in taxpayer money is going to.
