In four years time, the papers will still be writing shit about benefits and the small boats will still be coming and Britain's economic need for neither immigrants nor Europe will have changed, and these voters will blame the government and you'll have wasted your chance to actually fix anything.

And it *doesn't mean they're heroes*. Your job as a government is not to elevate the prejudices of a particular group of swing voter - against foreigners, benefit claimants, Brussels - into iron laws of politics. Your job is to improve the country enough to show them they were wrong.
