I'm no expert but I've been dabbling in duel commander in recent weeks and one of the most striking things about building decks is that even 2 color decks have horrible mana, so I wouldn't really worry about people going too ham on splashes (though obviously if they're not trying to win they might.)
May 12, 2025 at 10:28 PM
just get rid of the color restrictions altogether - magic already has a built-in mechanic for restraining color choices, called colored mana. commander doesn't need an extra layer on top of that.

lmao you really added badlands? you couldn't think of a more reasonable red source to play in a legacy deck?

sol ring is an immensely broken magic card and it's absurd to treat it like it isn't just because sheldon menery liked it for some reason.

That's obviously an advantage, and that's what you get when you cut down to 60. This analogy works pretty well when you aren't searching your deck or getting decked, but it falls apart if you have a bunch of tutoring that gives you access to your bottom cards naturally during a game.

One useful shortcut to help you think about this is, imagine your shuffled deck. It has some card (or 7 cards) on the bottom of it. Now imagine you are allowed to choose the bottom card of your deck instead of having it randomly chosen for you.

Both options are the same (qualitatively) with respect to inconsistency, but going up cards just costs more slots in the 75 to accomplish the same thing. e.g. instead of boarding in 5 anti-hate cards and cutting nothing, you could board in 4 anti hate cards and cut 4 cards at random.
