It’s actually a great sign for an elected official to be that visible because it means she’s out there talking to constituents and hearing what’s on their mind. Compare that to Trump who, it was recently pointed out, rarely if ever engages with anyone except the press and foreign leaders.

…should be made to the guidelines that determine how the funds are used, with 62% going to early childhood education, 31% for the transition from high school to college & 7% to fund administration.

Ms. Caban is currently the sole employee managing the program, glad she’s hiring additional help!

Like all immigrants, especially Venezuelans, they are worried right now & being careful since immigrants have no rights in this country that an ICE agent is bound to respect. However, they are trying to keep their spirits up for the holidays & are grateful for any support you are able to give!

Noheli has also struggled with health issues this year again, as she has had a hard life although she is not yet 40 years old. Norelkis and Karl have been working hard to support the family, and Michelle is in her junior year of high school. Celeste started preschool and just turned 4 years old!

…with a panel discussion featuring principal Nidya Báez, organizer Emma Paulino, and former HS Supe Preston Thomas.

Filmmaker Susan Zeig has made two previous documentaries about OUSD and has a deep understanding of our community’s work to improve our schools. I highly recommend it!!

…staff on how to propose tens of millions of $$$ in cuts by Dec. 3… feeling sad for OUSD which has ambitious plans in the next 6 months to hire a new supe, settle labor contracts, and make $100M in cuts, but none of those have a clear path right now.

I’m glad I’m focusing on other things…

I was taking a family member to medical appointments so I missed the group shot with the full new commission, but I was lucky enough to grab a selfie with the Mayor as she was going in to give her State of the City address! So impressed with all I have heard about how hard she is working.
