Lidded jar
Pictured is a stoneware lidded jar. It sits on an unpainted wooden board with green vegetation in the background. The jar is slightly hourglass shaped with visible throwing rings over the entirety of the body. The lid is dome shaped and overhangs the body slightly. The knob on the lid is the same hourglass shape of the body of the jar. The bottom 2/3 of the jar and the lid are a brick colored red/ brown. The top 1/3 is a pale green with some crazing and some brick colored red bleeding through toward the very top. It is approximately 12 inches tall.

Making jars. 🏺
Stoneware lidded jar. Jar and lid are both glazed in shino. Jar is oval shaped. Photographed in an LED light box on a wooden stand. The lid is rounded and has no knob. The body of the jar is almost black from carbon trapping during gas reduction firing. The lid, likely due to its aerodynamic shape, trapped no carbon and is a traditional shino tan. Jar is approximately 8 inches tall. Same jar, photographed on brickwork. There is an old cast aluminum coin operated horse in the background with no paint remaining on it.
