Last night, I taught a 4-H class for starting African violets. I had the best time with some kids who learned to enjoy lovely things and the value of pruning. There’s a nice violet on my windowsill today, a reminder of the good in the world, especially in a room full of kids and flowers and soil🙂

Sometimes, when I hear the word read, I hear the Spirit speak an entirely different message than the one I prepared. The reading from Isaiah 6 had me thinking about our current moment, and the call of the prophet.

Christmas is usually a big book time for me. Not so this year. Only received one book, but it’s sooooo good.

Got out the telescope this evening, saw Saturn’s rings, managed to grab a cell phone photo of the moon. Not a great picture, but a cool moment with my daughter nevertheless.

Few things more satisfying to a farmer than an animal well-raised, butchered with care, and will feed our family for the year.

The last thing he mentions is his actual job. That’s not encouraging.

This is not a helpful description of "religion."

Religion isn't about judging others. Religion is about learning HOW to love God and our neighbor with all our hearts. It is a school of discipline that teaches us how Jesus sees the world. Religion is how we learn to wash feet like Jesus.
