The difficulty was we were always battling to get people to accept hypotheticals the other side waved away saying they’ll never happen. Ten years on and people are now poorer because of brexit, living in a more dangerous world with nation state war in Europe and old alliances ending. Different case.

Also; there’s a strong change putin does invade say, Estonia, and if so, that + the madness engulfing the USA, with the right political handling (*big* if!) there will be a strong case to be made that the UK needs closer ties somewhere. As the person who did press for lab’s eu campaign,

I’m with you on almost all but this. There isn’t enough widespread political support for brexit still to give reform the popular support in enough constituencies to win. They *might* increase their seats, but if labour undo it quickly and get growth and people feel better off they won’t care by 2029

It’s also a nightmare for gov that it’s been granted in the Lords. Less media profile for sure, but the level of expertise and knowledge will mean the easy political rhetoric the gov would have used in the commons to defend this simply won’t wash. Suspect they’ll get a good booting from peers

I just despair that it’s the workers and unions having to file this instead of Democratic leadership, or even god forbid a republican with a sense of duty
