On average the SP accounts for 55% of pensioner income, the average pensioner has an income higher than the minimum wage. Plus they will likely have lower costs than workers, plus other perks and doesn't pay NI. The average pensioner is much better off than the ave young person.

Pretty meaningless without including all sources of pensioner income. SP only makes up around 50% of pensioner income in the UK.

It was the system todays pensioners voted for. They knew how much it paid out, it baffles me that so many pensioners get to pension age and are surprised by the SP amount. If you want more money in retirement save into a pension when you're working. Don't get to 67 without planning for retirement.

We need to do both, ditching the triple lock is fairer for todays workers. Help poorer pensioners but focus on lifting children out of poverty.
November 27, 2025 at 7:09 AM
Removing the triple lock doesn't impoverish pensioners, having a mechanism that increases SP above inflation impoverishes workers. Workers taxes increase to pay for a triple lock, while the SP age is pushed back.

In the UK state pension accounts for 50% of pensioner income vs 90% for many EU countries. researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN...

We don't when occupational and private pensions are included.
November 25, 2025 at 2:39 PM
True, but there is other help through housing benefit and pension credit.
November 25, 2025 at 2:38 PM
With the triple lock the state pension age will keep increasing as costs increase. Todays workers are gubbed either way.
November 25, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Exactly, workers paying more to hand more wealth to pensioners. Pensioners are looked after better than every other demographic.
November 25, 2025 at 6:38 AM
The state pension was never designed to be a person's only income in retirement. That's why we save into occupational and private pensions. Renting on a state pension is tough, the state offers help through pension credit and housing benefit. The triple lock isn't sustainable.

Do we all get compo? My state pension age has increased from 65 to 67, likely to be 68 soon. I keep my head in the sand and ignore the changes, compo please.
November 13, 2025 at 9:39 AM
When i started work the state pension age was 65, its now 67, likely to be 68. Can you send a letter to the DWP asking for my compo please?
November 13, 2025 at 9:37 AM
Do we all get compo then? Most of todays workers will have seen the pension age to change since they started work.

I remember my Mum talking about in the 90's, she knew, so did all her friends.
November 13, 2025 at 8:56 AM
Of course it is. Govt policy is in response to voter behaviour. When Boomers were the dominant voting bloc they voted to keep pensions low for their parents. When they retired they voted for pension increases.
October 29, 2025 at 12:05 PM
As the state pension cost increases state pension age for todays workers gets pushed out. Todays pensioners are better off than previous or subsequent generations. It's not sustainable, spending on children and education has been cut, to fund pension increases. Pensioners vote children don't.
October 29, 2025 at 9:56 AM
For decades they were, but not any more. 85% of pensioners own their own homes, their living costs are significantly lower than workers with families. To keep funding the triple lock retirement age for workers gets pushed out. I'd rather retire sooner with less.
October 29, 2025 at 9:51 AM
Help those who are in poverty, we should focus on getting children out of poverty, child poverty in this country is a tragedy.
October 29, 2025 at 9:48 AM
A 9% profit margin doesn't seem excessive. I was surprised it had been so low.

I miss Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister. She's competent, compassionate, and informed. She comes across really well in that interview. I could listen to her talk all day.
September 12, 2025 at 4:37 PM
If you won't accept pensioners are Reform's base without more data, why would you think it's another demographic without additional data. That doesn't make any sense to me.
August 14, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Totally agree, it's tough to cut through the hyperbole on pensions.
August 6, 2025 at 10:38 AM
I don't hate pensioners, it's more a feeling of sadness and disgust. The small-minded attitudes of many and their naked greed.
July 23, 2025 at 11:53 AM
Peak Boomer, always the victim. I blame Boomers for voting in their self-interest and not giving a f*ck about anyone else. CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU.
