Watch the journey of AI models trying to describe a video someone was watching -- going off nothing but their brain activity.

Over 100 iterations, it went from "Given these principles" ... to "A circular and rotating shape is formed with subtly moving sections."

Pretty impressive???!

Dear friends with access to microscopes,

If you would ever permit me to share your microscopy videos, I can’t promise I’ll pronounce things properly but I absolutely will find the perfect song that captures the biology (wait for it). 🧪

There are 2 types of people in this world:
1) those who LOVE the Merlin Bird ID app, and 2) those who are about to fall in love with it thanks to @corinanewsome.bsky.social. 🧪

Which one are you? 🤭

"We've lost the plot a bit on what it means to be healthy."

@jessicamalaty.bsky.social dropped SO MANY GEMS as a guest expert on our latest episode of the Curiosity Weekly podcast.

We talked all about the measles outbreaks in the U.S. & the MMR vaccine. Don't miss it: bit.ly/CuriosityWeekly 🧪

One of my favourite recent examples of community science:

Park volunteer Deb Manley discovered an entirely new genus & species of plant after uploading it to @inaturalist.bsky.social & realizing no one knew what it was!

It was the first such discovery in a US national park in nearly 50 years! 🧪

Funny enough, they compared their periodic cooking method to the classic 1-hr sous vide method, below.

They did different visual & sensory analyses plus tested nutritional value and found their method “won” on all fronts. Though, debatable and … unclear if worth the effort 😅

I think about the eggs I ate on my last trip to Paris at least once a week 😪

I love eggs this style, though I think they were purposely going for a former albumen (they did direct comparisons to eggs cooked for 1hr sous vide, which I think is similar to œuf parfait?)

Throwback to July 2012, when the science community held a mock "Death of Evidence" funeral on the Canadian Parliament Hill.

In white lab coats or dressed in black, the protest mourned cuts to federal science programs, legislative changes & the muzzling of scientists by the government at the time.

2 days of brain development in a few seconds ⚡️

Magnified 40x, blue- & red-coloured axons extend out in search of new connections. Captured in a chick embryo, but a similar process takes place in our brains 🧠

Finger-like projections lining the small intestine of a mouse.

You have these same types of folds in your gut, too. Just like how you fold your clothes to pack more in a suitcase, the lining of the gut does the same to pack in more surface area for absorbing nutrients from things you eat & drink.
