Happy Halloween!! I have dressed up as a Spotted Lanternfly for work today—what’s spookier than an invasive species threatening your native biome??

Tonight’s spooky watch was The Elixir (2025)!

I know it’s been getting a lot of hate online, but I liked it 🫣

The zombies run (ALWAYS SCARY), the special fx makeup was great, & the rain element was interesting.

It was my first Indonesian horror and I would definitely watch more!

Tonight’s spooky watch was Night of the Living Dead (1968)!

Despite being a classic, this was my first time watching it and I thought it was so compelling!! This was also the first time I saw zombies using tools—wish that was incorporated into more zombie flicks??

Had the joy of trying rambutan for the first time (delicious!!) and then I made some vegan salted quick fudge to celebrate. 🍫

Spent today fighting for my life making Claire Saffitz’s pull apart sour cream and chive rolls.

Did the dough ever come together when kneading? No.
Did the first rise work out? No.
The second? No.
Was I able to use fresh chives? No.

Despite everything working against me, these were DELICIOUS!! 🍞

Wanted a creature feature redemption, so tonight’s spooky movie was The Giant Gila Monster (1959)!

I loved watching clips of a clearly normal-sized lizard walking around menacingly, but WHY did the MC have to stop investigating to sing that “laugh children laugh” song not once but TWICE??

Still feeling the 50s horror, tonight’s spooky movie was Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959)!

This movie felt way too mean spirited to enjoy despite the monsters being interesting.

I also don’t know how the guys in the leech suits didn’t waterboard themselves when doing the water action scenes!!

Tonight’s spooky watch was House on Haunted Hill (1959)!

I LOVED THIS!! This was such a fun go-with-the-flow type of horror movie where any inconsistencies were charming rather than infuriating.

Nora deserves the world after all she went through 😭

I love celebrating spooky season by completing a stitch each October and this year I enjoyed a cute cat and pumpkin cross stitch from CrystalFeatherCrafts on Etsy 🧵🪡

I hosted a Halloween get together yesterday and made a cursed blueberry pie 🥧

Tonight’s spooky watch was Weapons (2025)!

To stay vague and avoid spoilers because it’s so freshly released, I’ll say that I wish I went in without preconceived notions on what I thought the movie would be like based on its poster/ads.

Recipe #2 is Viennese Fingers!

Despite knowing that the dough felt a little too loose, I put my faith into Mary Berry and ended up with some flat fingers. They tasted DELICIOUS however once the chocolate set!

Rating: 3/5 stars

Tonight’s spooky movie watch was From Dusk Till Dawn.

My love of vampire movies was REALLY warring with Quentin Tarantino trying to ruin this for me.

This month I’m tackling spooky movies on my to-watch list and started with Suspiria (1977).

What a technicolor fever dream. I’m not sure I liked it?? But I also didn’t not like it??

The 1st recipe in this book feels timely w/the last Bake Off episode—it’s flapjacks!

I’m more familiar with the North American flapjack (aka pancakes) so I channeled my inner granola bar maker to make the UK version.

Rating: 2/5 stars. So bland!! I see why contestants added such flavorful toppings

Autumn makes the baking gremlins in my brain gain strength, so I’m going to bake my way through one of Mary Berry’s books to see if I want to keep or declutter it 🍰

This bread baked so beautifully!! Cannot wait for it to cool so I can try a slice; my house smells INCREDIBLE

I hope my cats can bring you a moment of peace. They fell asleep after battling who would get to play with the giant llama toy (neither won).

Finally busted out my sewing machine for this next easy mend!

My favorite work skirt had the elastic falling out so I quickly sewed up the channel and secured the elastic.

I am SO EXCITED about this alteration! This dress dug into my armpits & had a neckline that I didn’t love.

I shifted the straps a couple inches to the side & hemmed the shirred edge. I thought about adding in a bias tape to the edge like it originally had, but I don’t mind how it looks.

Next up I have this blouse for work the dips just a liiiittle too low for the environment I work in.

Originally I wanted to see if I could get away with using a button in my stash that was the same size as the others but the color was just off enough to look strange.

So I just sewed the top close!

Chose a super quick and easy alteration to get me started! This shirt fell at an awkward length and the decorative twist looked strange with most bottoms.

I chose to do a simple cut at my preferred length and am going to try to keep the raw edge! If it frays in the wash, I’ll hem the bottom.

My gardenias are blooming for the second time this year and a giant, beautiful orb weaver has taken up residence in one of the bushes 🕷️
