It's basically just additional HTML tags. Using it for navigation is pretty nice too since the page gets "hot swapped" by the JS and it's not a full page load which sometimes flickers/looks ugly
Hyperscript is also nice. I can also recommend the book hypermedia.systems (free online)

As a backend dev who refuses to install anything Node/JavaScript related: it's an easy way to get interactivity and SPA feel with basically just template rendering. Like others am have explained you can make get/post requests using every element, not just forms or something like that.
