The home secretary, Yvette Cooper, has said the prime minister’s words were “completely different” to those used by Enoch Powell in his infamous rivers of blood speech, amid criticism within the party of the rhetoric used to launch the government’s immigration crackdown.

Our day of strike was powerful & positive. Back at work today for 2 days, & we have asked SMT to meet with us.
We are willing to meaningfully negotiate. If they aren’t willing to do the same we will be back out for the next 2 weeks - knocking out the end of the teaching term & crucial admin work.

I mean, we've had some good rallies, but this one... Wow! So grateful to Sheffield Students Union for organising, and all the speakers for their barnstorming speeches.

Chemistry degrees have some of the highest values of any degree and are vital if we want to build a competitive high-tech nation. But they are expensive, and so if universities want to save money quickly they will just ignore national priorities and close them.
