Thanks. It makes sense to broaden antiviral use. Though, COVID-19 now often presents like a mild cold, leading to many undetected cases. It's unclear if those with mild symptoms might develop long Covid or if it will become less of a concern as the virus becomes less pathogenic.

Fair, but what's the alternative? In this case, until there's enough equipoise (probably there is, now), you *can't run the RCT without collecting enough observational data to justify it, first.

Here's an interesting question, I have no idea what the answer is: what was the strength of evidence behind 8-12 in the first place? A lot of these dogmatic things turn out to have been set in stone based on mechanistic and case report data.

👆this. Dismissing this research because it's observational is as short sighted as running with it straight to your neighborhood ICU and cranking up the hypertonic fluid. We have strong new, but limited evidence. Now bring on the large prospective RCTS.
