It’s obviously inherent to the system. When you need 50% to control a company, there will be very few with 50%+ of a company.

It will change the operating model of many companies is a way that taxes wouldn’t. Picks winners and losers in a weird way. Why would you tax a coffee importer at a higher rate than a masseuse?

Sure there are plenty of hairs to split in my example. Depends on the business. My is merely that tariffs are not the same as a corp tax and especially not on a percentage basis. Would love to be proven wrong here because this is going to trash many of my customers.

For example say I am making tractors. I am buying 10k worth of steel and selling it for 11k. 15% tax increase is only a $150 haircut. A 15% tariff is a $1500 death blow.

That’s because taxes are taken from profits. A low margin multinational business is hardly punished by tax increases. Tariffs however could wipe them out with ease.

I think maybe we stop ignoring the rural demo and start build a platform that makes them feel included and see the benefit. I don’t think our health care / research / academic institutions are working great for them.

Mark, I live here in Iowa City, it’s a college town through and through. UIHC (hospital) is the biggest hospital in the state and biggest employer.

My friend is a grant writer and he and his team are not sleeping well at night. They see what’s coming and are rightly afraid for their future.
