And yes, the animations do sync up in multiplayer too. I've been successful so far in forcing myself to make every new system work in multiplayer too, avoiding the headache of having to go back and fix everything all at once later.

A burrowing weevil that uses its hard claws and crystal tipped snout to bore holes in the cave walls, extracting the delicious metal rich minerals from the stone.

If you slay one, you might be able to extract the minerals it's harvested from its chitin...

I'm hoping that by giving things more of a physicality, it gives the player a stronger feeling of agency. You're not just dragging rocks into a menu and then waiting for a progress bar to fill, you're having to place the rock in a bucket and actually SMASH them into an ore powder to be smelted.

Still plenty of work needed to flesh it out, but getting rudimentary base building working (and in multiplayer!) is a satisfying end to the work day in my book!
