Six appropriation bills have been signed into law. There are six left. So half the government would shut down. USDA is done so SNAP is funded through 30 Sep. I believe Defense, Labor, Transportation and DHS are still outstanding plus maybe State and Treasury.

I've always wondered how recruiting from social work/nursing schools would change police departments. Like would they get better at de-escalation because they are hiring people already drawn to helping professions?

Sadly their prior year funding is available for use regardless of the current CR status. They don't even need an FY26 approps bill because the FY25 OBBA gave them so much money. The OBBA passed on party lines and no Dem voted for it.

I'm active in my local community and I have noticed that too. We had a young progressive candidate run for city council and I went to his meet and greet and I was the youngest person there. All boomers and moms. Same with the community org I belong to.

I just finished Linda Gordon's book on the KKK during the 1920s and jesus what a bleak, depressing time for America. So seeing all these white people protesting in the streets now is actually making me feel optimistic that this may be the beginning of the end of this regime.

Technically OMB could refuse to re-apportion their prior year funding as punishment for lawlessness but Russell Vought would probably have to be visited by 3 ghosts first.

They got almost $170B in the OBBA last year. That money is available for their use this fiscal year. $30B of that is for operations and enforcement which is 3 times their annual budget for ops. Shutdown ain't gonna do shit unless Congress rescinds the prior year funding.

Yeah they got a bunch of money in the reconciliation bill last fiscal year. Doubt a shut down will even affect them.
