Controversial for some, but I'm not a fan.

Mostly because Vis is the BIGGEST DAMN GARY STU I HAVE EVER SEEN. Not a flaw or consequence in sight, zero character development, he's magically good at everything he does, oh and did I mention he's an orphan who is secretly a prince??

About to start book number 26 for 2025!

I started keeping track of what I'm reading this year as a way to disconnect from mindlessly consuming tv and social media. Trying to read as many books as I can has helped me remember to put down my phone and do something I genuinely enjoy.

Getting stuck into this classic. I love political fantasy and am in awe of writers who can do this genre justice.

Funny how the prevalent use of SA as a plot device and/or torture 🌽 is vigorously defended in genres such as Crime, Thriller, and Fantasy but as soon as people are reminded that Romance exists and *gasp* WOMEN enjoy it, the presence of SA is quickly used to condemn the whole genre.

For every author that has a summary at the start of books in a series - may your tea always be hot, your pillow cool, and your favourite song play on the radio when you start your car 🥰😇

I can't get this Onyx Storm special edition debacle out of my head, when did we start calling scalpers 'resellers'?? This feels like the time vanity-scam publishers rebranded themselves as hybrid publishers.

I never would have thought 'scalpers are bad' would be a controversial stance, but once again the book side of social media is out here proving me wrong.

To paraphrase Team Rocket: I was prepared for trauma, but not for this.

I knew going into this series not to hold onto hope, and now I'm at the final book I'm eager to see the new ways R F Kuang is going to traumatise me 🫠

Predictions: Rin and Kitay are going to die, the Viper is going to come back and stay back, and prettyboy Nehza is going to become Emperor 💙📚 💙🪐

In today's Garbage Takes, a specific section of society is upset at calls to stop including child marriage+SA in fantasy books, because:

- they got bullied and those stories are comforting 🥹👉👈
- they want to read about societies with different morals 🤓
- censorship is bad 🤬

My pet peeve for 2024 has been people miscategorising adult books as YA.

And then arguing that the industry standard term doesn't personally make sense to them, therefore it's ok to market/promote/review books with adult content under a YA label.

I've just been the victim of a hate crime (my local IKEA restaurant doesn't serve pasta anymore) so I'm submitting an immediate report to the International Human Rights Commission.

I am becoming increasingly convinced that there is an entire subsection of fantasy 'readers' that haven't read a fantasy book since primary school because WDYM 600 pages is "far too long" for an epic fantasy novel aimed at adults????

It's 363 days until Christmas and people already have decorations up. Peak capitalist consumerism.

Today's thought experiment:

Would a book titled 'The Printer That Doesn't Jam' be sci-fi or fantasy?

The professional novelist must constantly struggle with the most profound questions of existence, such as: 'have I just spent 6 months writing a pile of shit?'

Throwback to the time I had to explain the concept of the fantasy genre to a coworker who thought 'fantasy' books was a euphemism for porn.

Papa Tolkien would be spinning in his grave 🤦‍♀️

If the sun sets, but there's no one around to take a photo to post to social media, did it even really set??
