Thankfully here in Lincolnshire, the torrential rain from #stormclaudia seems to be less intense than forecast by the Met Office.

Not so for the west of the country though!

Which two monsters found an open packet of Tesco triple chocolate cookies, proceeded to eat 1 and a half*, resulting in a late night emergency trip to the vets on a bank holiday weekend?

(*yes they’re absolutely fine)

Beautiful day to walk along South Shields beach before the Stronger Shores conference today!

Looking forward to a great discussion on the progress of #saltmarsh, #seagrass and #oyster #restoration projects along the north east coast of England.

These two little hooligans have moved in to our household today.

Littering the beach at Holme in north #Norfolk today are the relics of a past seascape, now sadly lost.

Remains of horse mussel (Modiolus) and huge native #oyster shells that once formed beds & reefs along the Norfolk coast.

I wonder how many people realise what they’re walking on!

Here is a summary of the newly published roadmap for the inclusion of #saltmarsh on the UK Greenhouse Gas Inventory - great infographic by the Environment Agency and @ukceh.bsky.social

It lays out the steps that are needed to get the evidence and processes in place for carbon sequestered by saltmarsh carbon to count towards our net zero ambition.

Some of the steps were actually already doing - see my previous posts about flux towers for measuring CO2 and CH4 on saltmarsh!

On the flux towers, I found this photo on Facebook (credit to Ray Hutton) of our tower on the saltmarsh in Lincolnshire getting [deliberately] wet during the recent equinox spring tides…

One of my favourite projects in working on at the moment is in measuring saltmarsh’s ability to store blue carbon.

The Environment Agency and @ukceh.bsky.social have 4 flux towers on natural and restored saltmarshes in Essex, Lincs and Dorset that measure their realtime greenhouse gas fluxes…

A chilly day up on Kinder Scout today, making our way across the #peat bogs at the summit.

Amazing to see the #restoration work that has naturally filled in the deep channels in the peat that gouged through the bogs last time I was up here a decade ago.

I even spotted a mountain hare, a first!
