London born, long term resident in Italy. Was an architect, once, but not in the way you'd think!
Serious interests are many, but often political. Silly interests are cats and Formula 1!
I very rarely watch football, but every time I do the game goes to extra time and then penalties. Looks like it might happen again tonight.
I am willing to accept payment to never watch again from people who like the 90 minute format!

Tomorrow Lillian is going to plug it in, isn't she! They have been known to explode ... #TheArchers
Nah, he's a real coffee nerd, and I suspect a bit of a fashionista, so he'll have one of these!

I am sure that in the past I have shared my admiration for Ed Zitron's podcast, and said 'this is the best ever', but this episode is truly "The Best Ever". Give it a listen.

I watched the film #Blitz, by #SteveMcQueen (2024) tonight on Apple TV. It's really very good, looking at civilian life in London, and the ubiquity of the air raid wardens, with observations about racism and feminism and looting. Quite suitable for children!

Ah - some Queen! I'm back with #totp after genuinely not having any recollection of Abba or the guy before them!

They really should put the karaoke script up on these historic #totp shows!

Is anyone else feeling bombarded by Windows Updates? I've been alerted to two each week over the last month. They normally go smoothly, and I suppose I should check what 'potential problem' they're addressing, but is it all mainly about inflicting unwanted AI?

Hutton is always marvellous, but this exceeds all expectations.

..."the Sketch was failing to emphasise many of the benefits of Conservative policy: for instance, many people dislike visiting the dentist, and under the last government, that worry simply went away".

I wanted to know the weight of firewood delivered on a pallet, I googled, in English, so most of the results were from the US.
Aside from US pallets being very big, they measure wood in 'cords', occasionally referencing cubic feet!
Googling in Italian worked.

Why doesn't Hamilton just retire the car? #F1 He has told the pit that it's undrivable, 19th isn't going to add any points to the constructors.

I need a stand-in driver to support (as the Ferraris have been a bit disappointing) so I'm going for Hadjar. He seems to live a pretty charmed life avoiding incidents, besides being reasonably fast. #F1

An entertaining read , although I remain convinced that the plural of quail is quail, as in duck!
This mini thread is more along the lines of “weird shit that happened” while I was on various USSS protective advances protecting VP Cheney

BREAKING: SANDWICH GUY ACQUITTED. NOT GUILTY!
We have reached a verdict: Not guilty.
November 6, 2025 at 7:26 PM
This is entertaining - apparently culled from the publication Le Parisien - the 'petty crooks' first arrested for the Louvre heist didn't know they were robbing 'The Louvre'!

For anybody who has not yet been enchanted by the 'Sandwich Guy' mini saga this is a good starting point!
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

I liked the woman (expert on Rome's medieval towers) on #BBCPM this evening.
The Torre dei Conti has had a couple of misfortunes today, and she told us that Roman medieval towers were thrown up in a bit of a rush, and not really expected to last!

This is a major problem, Grok (et al) are scraping the internet for content, and they are therefore also scraping bot posts. Bots are not just pests, they have become opinion formers.
It's the X bots, that grok is referencing, for this info.
