One of my resident gulls sits outside my top floor window hoping I'll put some food out on the ledge for him. My ginger cat sleeps on a chair inside the bay window, oblivious the the bird that is as big as he is.

Stunning morning today around Arthur Seat. We saw then heard a Common Redstart, who checked us out but took flight before I could try to take a photo. The Merlin app confirmed this rare wee bird. #Birds #ScottishBirds
Photo taken from Queens Drive around Arthur Seat. The shot looks down the east coast. There are little fluffy clouds in the blue sky. It's a beautiful, bright morning Screengrab of the Merlin app on my phone. We saw a Common Redstart (rare bird) and the Merlin app confirmed the ID. Bowl of granola with extra nuts, fruit (grapes, blueberries and sliced bananas) with home fermented yogurt and kefir. There's a mug of coffee too, and a coaster with a shark on it. It all sits on my Paris table which is situated in the bay window. It's very sunny this morning. I have my breakfast when I get home from my walk, or get to work as I can't eat first thing. I must prepare it when I first get up though, or I might forget to eat it all together. A photo of Dunsapie Loch which you reach on the north East ascend of Queens Drive on Arthur's Seat. The loch is completely still and "glass like". The sky is very blue with wispy clouds. The surrounding greenery frames the loch beautifully and the trees in the far end reflect on the water, as does the rock on the left which also projects some shade.

Heard the Song Thrush for the first time this year - what a song! Watched tree surgeons remove the Elm they felled a couple of days ago, with a hydraulic arm on a tractor. "Diseased, it had to go"

The birdsong this morning was beautiful. Merlin identified the birds for me European Robin Song Thrush (was particularly beautiful) Eurasian Jackdaw Common Chiffchaff Common Magpie Common Chaffinch Also, not seen on this list, Great Tit Holyrood Park near Arthur Seat. Tree surgeons use hydraulics to lift the sliced trunk elm, that was felled two days ago, onto a trailer attached to a tractor. The tree was diseased, Dutch Elm. I hope the woodpecker I heard here didn't live in this tree Wall art at the Steps off Montrose Terrace to W. Norton Place. Fist Full of Arseholes has been carved in the cement next to a circular mosaic. It must have been carved the 90's as I seem to remember that band name back then.

Sunrise on London Road, Edinburgh at 7am Sunrise rising over Arthur' Seat taken from Holyrood Park as we walk in from Abbeyhill Very blue sky taken while ascending Queen's Drive on our walk around Arthur's Seat. There is only one road sign warning of toads crossing. One has gone. Maybe it's been pinched. The remaining triangle sign to warn us that toads are crossing Queen's Drive. The other sign has gone. I hope it wasn't pinched but secretly I wish I had a "warning toads crossing" sign.

I'm delighted to be working from home this week writing reports. Not least because it means I can get out on these cold but gloriously sunny mornings for a walk around Arthur Seat with the Merlin App, listen to the birds and look out for toads 💚
Sunrise on London Road, Edinburgh Early morning light on Dunsapie Loch, up Arthur Seat, Edinburgh. The morning is bright and cold and the loch looks like a mirror Ascending Queen's Drive up Arthur Seat. There are no cars because the barriers stop them driving around the hill at this time of year for the annual toad migration. The rangers have placed warning triangles on either side of the road to inform walkers and cyclists to take care. The signs are a red triangle around a stencil of a toad. The view from Queen's Drive is looking down to Duddingston Loch and Bird Sanctuary.
