Maybe she just accepted her own dark obsession along with rest of her very unusual life, and put it to good use. Maybe she just... allowed herself to enjoy the dark thrills along the way.

I think she finally had the veil of fantasy ripped away from her when confronted with the reality of the crimes. I think she was horrified by what she saw, and suddenly saw her own obsession in a very different light and just wanted to run away from it. A problem Kelly-Anne never seemed to have!

She was obsessed in the same way that a police detective working on the case might have been. (Maybe she missed her calling!)

And I *really* didn't read Clémentine's departure as having anything to do with disgust or horror about Kelly-Anne's actions.

Before listening to you and also the Monstrous Feminine podcast's take, I really hadn't considered she could be a genuine "groupie" - I always saw her as holding herself apart from that. She was obsessed, but not in the deluded, romantic way Clémentine was.

So I appreciated your analysis that maybe what she was getting out of that was just her ability to have an impact on him and the case - to leave her mark. The bedroom though...?

The fly in the ointment of that reading of course is... what was going on with those costume reveals? And that's what left me confused. My only thought was that she wanted to get a reaction out of him in the courtroom - something that would validate her efforts and also betray his guilt.

But I didn't read her as monstrous. Unhealthily obsessed, yes. But at the root of it all I felt that she must have been motivated by truth and justice. Her ability to be systematic, logical and detached (as well as her hacker-like IT skills) are what helped her bring about the outcome.

I watched this just last week and I've been thinking about it a lot. I was left with a lot of questions about Kelly-Anne's motivation. I read her as being very much autistic-coded, and very much like Lisbeth Salander from Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, as you guys noted.
