This morning as of 11:25 am. Only two notable incidents, one in Woodburn and another in King City. (Duplicate posts referring to same incidents.) Nothing in Cornelius, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Rockwood, or Gresham. A strangely quiet morning.

Companies such as 1-800-RECONEX were criticized for preying on poor people, but provided the services that no other companies were willing to.

With the increased affordability of prepaid mobile phones, these companies naturally went out of business.

To cut the costs, bills were sent out on a postcard, and could only be paid at places such as ACE Cash Express. If a customer missed the due date, the phone service was immediately terminated, and they had to order a new service with a different phone number.

1-800-RECONEX (and its competitor, TELNET) used to advertise on payphone booths, check cashing stores, phone books, etc., targeting those who either lost their landline phone services due to nonpayment or those who could not get a telephone service because of no or bad credit history.
