SALC's Vivian Kasunda, representing applicants with disabilities, welcomes the court's timeline in a landmark case challenging Malawi's begging law. The High Court sitting as a Constitutional Court has given the State 14 days to file arguments; the case was adjourned to January 13, 2026.

Today, the High Court in Blantyre has moved forward with a SALC-supported case challenging the criminalisation of begging, ordering the State to file its arguments within 14 days after years of delay. This step is vital for protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.

Yesterday, SALC met with colleagues from the Gender Negotiations and LGBT+ Rights Teams within the Gender, Equalities and Rights Department of the Education at the UK Foreign Office, during their recent visit to Botswana, exchanging perspectives on the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.
