Our news judgments are made independently — not based on or influenced by donors or any revenue source. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content.

We have 1 -- soon to be 2 -- full-time paid staff; no physical newsroom; no print edition; no advertising. We pay our freelance writers and photographers decently and we provide free community programs and workshops.

Washington State Poet Laureate emerita Rena Priest, who helped plan early stages of the festival, said, “Adding a poem to an ordinary, everyday situation makes life a little magical.”
