Compressed schedule is new variable. We should anticipate every other year will be an “injury year” for the league as they make room for international events.

Now if the Wild had scored a goal before the whistle how would they have handled this? Clearly no penalty but they let the Wild finish an extended possession which included a SOG. If a penalty was confirmed on review does it negate the previous goal due to a missed stoppage?

An icing call avoids that play

So people will say “team has room for a $5m player” but what they actually mean is the acquiring team has room for the $2m the player is owed. That is how a team could add a $5m player with $2m in space on deadline day. They saved up enough to pay the player his remaining season salary.

A team that remains at 100% cap roster all season never earns unused space. A team that stays at 90% cap all season slowly earns part of the unused 10% each day. When acquiring a player look at how much their owed prorated for remaindr of season. $5m player might only be owed $2m at trade deadline.

The cap is always being enforced (ignoring edge cases around injuries). You can’t have a roster worth 110% of cap on day 1 and “make up for it” by having roster worth 90% on day 2. The league is always monitoring teams stay under limit and how much each team is accruing any given day.

It’s kind of both, which is why it’s hard to explain. Each day u accrue space if u aren’t maxed out. Teams aren’t paying the full salary on day 1. If a player is traded on day 2, u gain credit for that day’s roster $$ being lower on day 2. On day 3 u call up a player & they impact day 3’s cap calc.

If everyone was healthy we’d resume building up unused space. Give credit to Guerin for having elbow room for these call ups. If we had spent to the cap we’d actually have trouble calling up help with these injuries. That has happened in recent years to the Wild

Two factors: 1) we did take on more cap with Hughes and 2) we cannot earn cap space for the season when we have this many call ups. Every team with cap space slowly accrues “unused cap” throughout the season. We are currently not accruing space because of these call ups. We’re using the space now.

Joe doesn’t post here, sadly.

Quite a flop on replay

Jiricek tried to force it up the boards earlier in the play and could have played it to his partner. If he makes the right play it leaves the zone. Tough game so far for him

It’s preseason for the officials too 😀
