Voting is an act of community and belonging. I always get emotional when I vote. I see that first day in 🇨🇦 so long ago, landing in Halifax, with all the possibilities it held. We must preserve the community belonging that gives us all a place and a say in this amazing society.

In other times, I would have tweeted about how I am still haunted by the pain and lonely healing in All of Us Strangers. Doing so seems so self-indulgent in this world of today. I feel underserving of such expression. The guilt of surviving and being able to live my life.

What was the last straw that brought me here? Noticing the patterns of subtle white supremacy on my feeds—such as posts about the “Zimbabwefication” of the world—African history as if race and colonization never existed. How can knowledge ever be uncoerced under such manipulative algorithms?
