In 1998, Vi Menn paid me 3,200 NOK for my story “Pakten” — enough to cover a month’s rent. They gave it a full-page illustration.
The magazine had a weekly circulation of 93,800. Norway’s population at the time: ~4.4 million. That’s 2% of the country.
I was 26, and it was my first submission.
