Recently I was asked why I made a rope social media account. It’s because, for better or worse, this seems to be how we vet one another in the rope world — by looking at pictures. But I’ve stayed for the dopamine hits.

Today, I’m reflecting on the Japanese concepts of shokunin and kodawari, and how they resonate with my journey in shibari. While I may not dedicate my entire life to rope, I find immense joy in refining small details—perfecting a square knot, or bundling rope so precisely it feels like meditation.
