As Katsuki fell back into sleep himself, he wondered not for the first time if this was the price every person on the so called ‘right side of the law’ had to pay every now and again.

“Hardly. Now go to sleep, you worked long enough.” Eijirou sighed again, but it only took a few more moments before his breathing evened out and he began to softly snore in Katsuki’s arms.

He kissed Eijirou on the forehead and his lover let out a soft and tired sigh as he snuggled down into Katsuki’s chest.

“You always know what to do…” he murmured and Katsuki snorted.

“That’s not how it works, Ei. But I’ll make inquiries first thing tomorrow. I’ll talk to them. To the police and most importantly, the foster parents. We might not be able to change the whole system all in one go, but we can make sure at the very least that these kids are taken care off.”

“Chief said they’d be staying in holding for the night… They tried calling the parents… but… their foster kids. I… why does it feel like I’m on the wrong side of justice here, Kats? Like I should have helped them pack up instead of handing them to the police?” Katsuki continued caressing his face.

“You got their names?” he asked softly, finding peace in those red eyes, like soft campfires. Eijirou nodded.

What’s happening in their lives that they have to meet me at the crack of dawn hauling them in over some frozen pizzas?” He sighed heavily and Katsuki turned around, stroking his lover’s cheek.

“Wasn’t… wasn’t anything so bad, just… teenagers. Y’know. Kids. Like, barely 16, maybe. What are they doing, robbing a convenience store at three in the morning? Didn’t even go for the register. Went for the food, Kats.

He let him stay, softly caressing his hands which had him in a vice grip around Katsuki’s torso. Painting nonsense symbols on the backs of those fingers, which were so soft despite his quirk.

“Just… lemme stay here… just a moment…” Eijirou’s voice was muffled. He sounded exhausted but not like he was crying. Which either meant it wasn’t as bad as Katsuki feared or it was so bad that he hadn’t broken down yet.

“S’okay… all good on patrol?” There was silence. A silence that woke him up more than any movement ever could.

“Ei? What happened?” He felt his lover press his face between Katsuki’s shoulder blades.

Katsuki’s consciousness returned slowly as he felt the bed dip behind him.

“Mhm… Ei?” An arm wrapped around him.

“Hey… sorry for waking you, baby…” Katsuki let out a soft sigh and snuggled back into the giant heat cushion behind him.
