Is everyone just going to let that Diskworld reference go by like it was nothing?

Ha! I was Air Force. I made the lights blink (comms). I spent my time in Alaska or the Middle East. We didn’t really practice formations outside of a Change of Command. We were working. And no one practiced marching unless you volunteer driving Honor Guard (hard, but cool) Can’t speak for Marines.

And because you don’t have a 1st Amendment Right when in uniform. You can’t protest.
The irony is the people who swear an oath to the constitution don’t have all of its protections under the UCMJ, and so if you’re going to disobey an order…it better really fucking matter.
This Didn’t.

Because in the military, ultimately you do your job and what asked of you. You look to your Officers and NCOs to do theirs, and to do the right thing, and make sure you do.
And you don’t risk an Article 15 or Court Marshal, and your carrier, over a stupid parade.

Hey folks, as a liberal and veteran, that fact that you can’t call up 1K goose stepping solders overnight is something to be proud of as an American. It means the military doesn’t waste valuable time training for stupid parades.
Stop shitting on folks who didn’t have a choice and had to be there.

Thanks an old school WW2 Sherman! And a bit squeaky and from a different era. Shame it’s in a parade no one likely will (or should) see.

Looks folks, unless you’re on an actual drill and ceremony team…which you usually volunteer for…this isn’t what you practice for beyond basic and your tech school.

The fact that we *cant* instantly call up a thousand solders to goose step on command is something to be proud of as an American.

I had a chance to see this on IMAX for the Directors Cut last summer. Not without its faults, but man is it gorgeous to watch. And really stuck with me.
