It took place in late ‘80’s/early 90’s Los Angeles. I was going for a Hellboy ‘hidden world’ vibe. The PCs were special in that they could see through the veil. The hardest part was trying to craft a story for 3 players different expectations.

I ran mine with D20 Modern. It’s an old spin-off of DnD 3.5. There’s a few setting books for different modern settings such a, Urban Fantasy, Space Fantasy, Pulp Fantasy…

It is the most common ttrpg denominator. Also, they can make free online characters with DnD beyond. That can be a real selling point for some.
