TIL that the little cloth that is put over the backs of chairs is called an antimacassar. It was used to keep the Macassar oil, that men in the 1800s used to style their hair, from staining the chair.

TIL I've been spelling "vittles" the nonstandard way for all of my life. I'd have sworn that the C in victual is pronounced. And also that I've never heard the word actually spoken in all my life. But now I know that all the times I've heard vittles, I've actually been hearing victuals.

Today I learned the Gucci logo isn't as dumb as I thought. The founder's name was Guccio Gucci and that's the official name of the company too. That said though, I'm curious if Coco Chanel was bothered by the similarity to their own logo.

Not sure why Blue Sky thinks my German is so much better than it actually is. Many of the recommended posts are from German accounts.
