Decades have been spent exacerbating the problems so it should come as no surprise that the right would take up the opportunity. It's certainly easier to blame the Ausländer for all your problems than to reconcile with the fact that it is your own who have done the damage. It's so obvious and sad.

What will never stop burning a hole in my heart is how much all of this, especially the AfD, is directly downstream of reunification. The pillaging of the East by the West. The disenfranchisement. But so few know and even fewer care.

It is a nation that bends over backwards to shout down any criticism by bringing up their so-called remembrance culture, their so-called obligation to "never again" let these things happen. Yet so few Germans know their own history, so few face the reality of what has and continues to be done.

These are my friends, my neighbors, my community, and myself. Yet to speak out against any of what's happening publicly is inviting state violence, detention, and deportation. But again the pattern is nothing new and it should not be seen that way, especially here.
