The majority takeaway I gained from this trip is that America hasn’t ever lived up to its idea of liberty and freedom. From the root, this nation has been corrupted by inequality and injustice. It won’t ever change unless it addresses those injustices and rights the wrongs…

Sometimes the white counterparts would achieve concessions (outlawing of European slaves/servitude, wage increases) in the attempt to separate the union between the poor whites and the enslaved blacks. Again and again the black American snubbed from true liberty and equality.

7) Many of the slave revolts usually were done by a combination poor whites and enslaved blacks. The outcomes of these revolts usually result in little to no punishment for the white counterparts and a harsh one for the black Americans due to fear of larger black slave uprisings…

6) If the world was a game of civ, America would have won a cultural victory owed primarily to black Americans. Music, Dance, Sport. Nearly all of America’s cultural export can be sourced from black American culture. Because Black culture is American culture. Hip-hop, Rock and Roll, Country, food.

Racism, authoritarianism, and injustice need to be confronted, combated, and conquered. Forcefully if need be. If reconstruction-era republicans didn’t sit idly by while black Americans were being terrorized in the south. It would have prevented 100 years of racial discrimination and violence.

5) I can only imagine the heights America would be at today if the spineless Republicans didn’t compromise with the racist southerners who were terrorizing black people during reconstruction. I fear today Democrats will repeat history and continue to compromise with an authoritarian force…

4) It was through the combined effort of Fredrick Douglas and Lincoln that Black people following the civil war were free from enslavement and gained citizenship. Lincoln originally wanted to ship all former slaves to another country until he was convinced otherwise by Fredrick Douglas.

It wasn’t a mindset of slavery being a necessary evil. Jefferson believed black people were physical and mentally inferior. When confronted about it by Benjamin Banneker, a free black mathematician and astronomer, Jefferson, in so many words said he was eloquent and one of the good ones.

3) Thomas Jefferson and most of the other founding fathers were bastards. Imagine believing that all men are created equal and wishing to exist free from British tyranny while you own other human beings. The paradox is baffling…

In another reality, more
black people sided with the British and America is still a british colony. Enslaved black people weren’t just working the land for cotton and other crops. The very core of America, Washington D.C. was built and designed by free (Ben Banneker) and enslaved Black Americans.

2) America wouldn’t exist without black people. From the economic foundation created through their exploitation to fighting against British in the American Revolution. Black Americans and America are inextricably linked...

1) This notion that enslaved black people just accepted hundreds of years of slavery is utterly absurd and false. Stono rebellion, Louisiana Slave Revolt of 1811, New York Conspiracy. There were plenty but were ultimately unsuccessful in the end and resulted in further racial backlash.
