Is it likely that #paleolithic #clactonian deposits such as found in the channel fills in Clacton and at Jaywick Sands extend significant distances into the nearshore of the estuary? curious sailor here.

The sea has many many moods - today the water gently kissed the hull, hissing slightly as air and water blended in a quiet foam, rushing past Trilleen’s hull and swiftly settling astern, covering our path as if we had never been.

this classic shetland boat form looks almost like a toy with its symmetrical bow and stern section and central mast. The ?yoal hull owes its origin to norse design and is specially suited to riding these harsh northern waters. #shetland #visitshetland #unst #baltasound

Muckle Flugga is the northernmost point of Shetland, and the whole United Kingdom. Looks can be deceiving, I shot this from Trilleen close hauled into 20kt and building. The raw video gives a better feel for the day

this is Muckle Flugga, the top mark of my circumnavigation of the United Kingdom. One broken mast, one failed engine and a whole lot of trouble later its great to be ticking off major headlands in the trip again

On Westray island in the north group in Orkney, buildings remain which are roofed vast stone slab - pointing to the islanders expertise with this unusual building material - from the self supported cantilever of the Maeshowe to the proposed roofing of Skara Brae #archeology #orkney #visitorkney

Noup Head, the westernmost outcropping of Westray in the north group in the Orkney Isles. Noup Hd is a horizontally stratified sandstone cliff rising sheer out of a calm blue sea, topped by Noup Head light which was the first to use a mercury bearing for the light #landscape #orkney #westray

The spectacular if diminutive neolithic figurine known as the Westray Wifey discovered at the links of Noltland, Orkney. The earliest neolithic figurine in Scotland 3800 BC-2500 BC. Perhaps female, perhaps not. #archeology #westray #orkney #neolithic #figurine

my auto bilge pump stopped pumping. The cause is pretty obvious. Probably something heavy got dropped when repositioning the engine for the last time. Very happy though, in this remote island community of Stromness a chandler had the exact same model in stock.

Trilleen is on the move - finally. now alongside Kinlochbervie after a super hazy sail across the minch

This is a classic example of a contradiction between colour coding and text. Here we have a Sauvignon Blanc - a white wine coded with red stripe and highlights. And yes I got caught out. Why I’m buying wine in cans? I’m stocking up on cooking wine for a sailboat and cans don’t break. #humanFactors

a wholly unimpressive piece of motor trial footage. But very sweet for me as it’s the first time Trilleen has been under her own power since last summer

first really good meal on the Origo alcohol stove. No idea why the stopped making these - loving it so far and so much easier for me than dragging gas bottles around
April 19, 2025 at 4:43 PM
new stove: arrived. Sailing while disabled is tricky, and sourcing, then carrying, gas. cylinders using my wheelchair or public transport was killing the vibe :-; so I shifted to an ancient technology an origo atmospheric pressure alcohol stove

super calm at Stornoway (slow mo) slightly unsettling reflection of a mast bending in the deep green water

Credible #aurora tonight but only my phone to hand and a lot of low cloud. 10s hand held exposure looking toward the Beatrice oil field in the North Sea

serious preparation for the coming season under way here. Disability means that major provisioning in random places isn’t so easy so although I’m only sailing in UK coastal waters I tend to take an oceanic approach and try to stay topped up.

I’m sad to share the news of Andrew Cassell - sailor, sailmaker, paralympic gold medalist, and founder of the acfsailing.org the foundation to whom I owe so much - they got me back on the water and on the course to owning and sailing Trilleen. My tribute is here sailingtrilleen.org/the-death-of...

in the summer I was positioning my tiny yacht Trilleen to make a run out to the abandoned islands of St Kilda and the dolphins joined me in the Sound of Barra (Hebrides). Navigation requirements meant I couldn’t hang around - and they soon sheared off #sailing

This from a few days ago in stornoway where Trilleen is wintering is hysterical. Three act opera. View as full screen if possible. Trilleen is part of my #disability rehab in a #sailinh boat
