Some who take #bisphosphonates for #osteoporosis etc. were found to be protected against #covid. We now have a #molecularmodel to explain this. Thanks to my #BITSPilani collaboration.

Last week, I stayed at a large hotel in Toronto that once employed 35 people to operate its internal telephones. Now all those jobs are gone. Hard even to explain to a young person what they did. Yet life is still better than it was in 1931. Automation is progress.

Since multiple people asked, @samarchdb.bsky.social's research doesn't really work well on Postgres because it has one of the worst query optimizers we've tested (sorry it's true). It cannot decorrelate subqueries needed to inline UDFs. See Sam's CIDR 2024 paper: db.cs.cmu.edu/papers/2024/...
