Really interesting, thank you

Oh, I see what you mean

Why is it unfairly favourable? Isn't it just people voting for the favoured party?
January 27, 2026 at 8:28 PM
Do we know figures for the various combinations? Would be very interesting to know how people spread out there votes / what combinations there are

Is your proportional share always based on the list vote alone? Because my feeling is that people don't always vote their first preference on the list vote, especially if they are getting messages like 'SNP 1 Green 2 to maximise the independence vote'

Totally this, my husband was one who worked on this and then was on call at the bells 1999. I heard a podcaster compare the Y2K bug to a medieval superstition, very frustrating.

Looks like summer to me (from Edinburgh, Scotland) 😅

Winning. Range of food groups, presented in a way that supports your child to eat then.

Really good article, I had missed it when it came out. As someone else who has a very strong association between eating and happiness, how do you find this on MJ? Do you still get a mood lift but you need less food?

We have Tado, works well for us and there was a discount for Octopus customers

Is there a way to get a more proportional system that keeps an area link to the members of parliament?
December 23, 2025 at 10:30 AM
I thought the regional list balanced this out, that high constituency seats meant the regional votes balanced it out. Is it that seats are being won with relatively low vote numbers so more regional votes are still being counted for SNP?

What does SMD stand for?
December 23, 2025 at 12:18 AM
Can you say more about this? (Or point to anything else that explains this more). Living in Scotland, we were told that the voting system was chosen to make coalition government the most likely outcome, is what you are referring to an issue that was foreseen (or foreseeable)?

This is great to see!

Where do you stand on rugby?

Totally agree - this annoys me very much. I'm in Edinburgh - my children (17 and 20 now) went guising and most of the kids we get at the door reach year are guisers, they tell a joke or sing a song, only a few say Trick or Treat.

Not true, I am definitely gen x (1975) and I have kids who are 20 and 16. Most of their peers parents are my age or older

The significant difference for me is that UK politics has ways to change direction mid-term (removal of PM by party, vote of NC by parliament) that do not as easily seem to be available in the US. I suppose impeachment is possible, but not sure if there are grounds

Sorry to hear this, Paper Cuts has been great, I have laughed out loud at many episodes. Hope to hear @msmirandasawyer.bsky.social @jonnelledge.bsky.social @avasantina.bsky.social @jasonhazeley.bsky.social and all the other excellent contributors on many other podcasts in the future.
