Early voting resumed today and continues all week at the Senior Center at Fletcher and Broadway. Only 9.9% of Lowell voters turned out in the 2023 city election. Let's do better than that this time!

We're almost done with the 2025 Massachusetts DCR Parks challenge - visit a dozen parks and stamp a passport at each one by the end of November. We plan to get the last ones in Western MA later this week, finishing with Mt. Greylock.

Next Saturday, Lowell is going to say it again, as long as it needs to keep being said, that in America, there is no sovereign above the law.
Lowell Democrats will be tabling there, along with many other community organizations too, because this work will have to keep going after Saturday.

I am not a very influential person. I am an officer of a small city's Democratic party with 300 followers on this site. Do I vent into the open on here? Absolutely not. It's disturbing that this is too much to ask of, say, a candidate for state legislature with 182k followers. it shouldn't be hard.

A pipefitting companies I worked at before did the industrial steam system for a suit jacket factory in Haverhill, MA, which was a vendor to Brooks Brothers, like the shirt maker Derek profiles here, and it was very illuminating to see up close. Unfortunately it too was closed by the pandemic.

We've got more lights up for Halloween this year. By mixing some oranges and whites from the Christmas sets in I extended them a bit, though I could just get more LED orange and purple.

Ed Kennedy served Lowell for decades as a city councilor, mayor, county official, and in the state legislature, fighting for the city's schools, students, parks, and infrastructure, and he accomplished a lot. He was a towering figure in the community, and one who will be sorely missed.

In 2019 I was able to get an unscheduled sit down meeting in his senate office to discuss ranked choice voting. He didn't agree with me but I appreciated the opportunity to get a fair hearing and it meant a lot. In 2022 he hired my wife into his senate office, transforming her career.

The festival was a great afternoon around Boarding House Park, within Lowell National Historic Park, and the music and food was as good as it always is.

Today was the 2025 Lowell Hispanic & Latinx Festival! There was some concern the event might get cancelled, as similar ones have been in other cities, used as a pretext for ICE action, or that fear of that might suppress attendance. But it went on, and attendance, while down, was still very good!

Tuesday September 9th featured preliminary elections in Lowell wards 3, 7 and 8 for their city council districts. In all three, challengers placed first, including Lowell Together endorsees Belinda Juran in 3 and Sidney Liang in 7. Marcos Candido has now received LT's endorsement in 8. Congrats all!

It's the Friday before municipal preliminary day for many cities in Mass, and now it's time for the final canvassing crunch! Well, hopefully not the *final* one before November.
