Ed's twin eyes twinkled in the twilight. Stede couldn't stop staring. Ed was talking to Buttons about their sailing routes, discussing the coming storm. Stede imagined himself talking to Ed instead. They could talk about the weather, it didn't really matter. The sun shone bright all day, having just disappeared under the water, but Ed, smart sailor that he is, knew that the following days wouldn't be as calm. Stede's imaginary hand held Ed's hand. They were talking about the clouds, and they were dancing, their imaginary feet moving slowly on deck, and Ed was smiling. Stede continued to stare.

"Ooh, Ed, do you think we have time to check this lovely shop? Look at those heels!" Ed snorts, "Man, they're gonna catch us! Besides, no place at the Republic of Pirates has ever been called 'lovely'. Every single window here is cracked." "That's part of the magic! It's so authentic!" "If we survive this, I'll take you there next time we're here." "It's a date." They both smile and continue running.

Hurrying through the corridor, Stede's foot hits the floor at a wrong angle. He has a moment to ponder on how this was the last thing he needed today, and then the cursed sheets drop to the floor and he immediately joins them, a sad pile of limbs and paper. His knee hurts. That's definitely gonna leave a mark. "Hey man, are you okay? Looked like quite the fall there." Stede looks up. A tattooed hand, held out towards him. Those eyes. Stede's mouth folds into a strange shape. A smile. He reaches back. "I think I'm gonna be okay."
