I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I felt all galaxy brained while reading. The English loc was super fun and I think I prefer the English. I consider this a must read!

Peak! PEAK!!! This could've been a "girls rule and boys drool" kind of story, but it's not at all. It's incredibly nuanced and so smart.

FUMI YOSHINAGA YOUR MIND!!! I want to examine her brain under a microscope. An all time fav and I can't recommend it enough.

They wanted people to be confused about the character's gender and I was cracking up at that response.

But conservatives like to think that we're wokeifying stuff when we're just listening to the creators' wishes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, and if anything it was too stiff...

It can be done, but this is an insult to the s'mores of my childhood 😤

The texture of every part of this thing is criminal, and I hesitate to call whatever the white stuff is, marshmallow. It's bland and a 食感 nightmare.

How could I forget about this month’s Shibuya-ku newspaper?

Semi-related, this was my favorite movie that I saw at Tokyo International Film Fest (it had such a positive reception!)

It's about members of the deaf community in Japan, and Kurdish residents. Read my short review on how it encapsulates Japan to me.

Last movie! "Chatterboxes" was SO MUCH FUN! I was smiling and laughing a ton, my face was hurting. The whole time I was like 「これが私が知ってる日本だ」"This is the Japan that I know".

*Hokokuji is the one of the most well manicured temples I’ve seen.

idk why it erased part of my sentence...

I agree! I think you summed it up. I've noticed the printing industry in Japan is a lot more robust and affordable than the U.S. as well as a much bigger second hand market (not limited to books).

While manga is more available in the U.S. I can never get used to how it's printed and organized haha

Countryside walks, duckies, a pretty portrait of Mary, and some late night ocean sounds before heading home. I wanted to stay another day but busy busy busy 🏃‍♂️

And I've lived in multiple states from the south, to the east coast, to the midwest. I'm from Chicago and I still feel like I will go to a bookstore with the intention to buy something but pretty much always walk out empty handed.

I wonder how you feel about American bookstores' selections in general? Because I've always felt like they don't carry almost anything I'm looking for, and if they do it's prohibitively expensive. I have the opposite problem here where I have to stop myself from buying so many books.
