We can rule out other explanations 1) the finding is not compositional. The beer attribute only appeals to working-class radical right voters, not working-class voters of other parties 2) the finding is not driven by gender stereotypes. Female candidates drinking beer are similarly appreciated (8/n)

While we find that all respondents dislike politicians ‘drinking wine’ (with the exceptions of the greens), only the radical right voters positively respond to the ‘drinking beer’ attribute. (7/n)

We test this argument in a conjoint experiment in the German-speaking parts of Switzerland. Our cultural consumption attribute differs between politicians drinking beer in a pub (‘Beiz’), meeting friends, and drinking wine while listening to classic music. (6/n)

My book is here! Such a wonderful feeling to see it in print. While the book covers a group of parties that is very successful in the volatile party systems of Centr.&Eastern Europe, I learned a lot from studying these parties for party system change in general. A thread 1/10
