There is so much power in ritual. It is what I miss most about religion. For me, my pepper mill is a lovely new ritual. I fill it sometimes daily, other times weekly depending on what and how much I cook. And like my nearly 25 year marriage, it takes work and attention.

At work we give harm reduction supplies away, and sometimes people know exactly what they want- pipe size and needle gauge. Other times people spend time looking and considering.

But what I kinda love the most is that it doesn't hold a lot. So I must use my funnel and restock regularly. And this refilling ritual, with funnel and little peppercorns, makes me think of all the pipes and spoon rituals that I do not indulge in by some stroke of luck.

And we have a smaller table one for fine powder to please Gabriel as needed. This one also has lovely wood and copper, like my kitchen sink. And it is half modern and half old school, like me-self.

A dear new collector friend of mine offered several mills for us to try and select one from. His gift. Each was different and had pros and cons. But right away, when I used this one, I knew. This one gives me the big toothy bits, and I am chef so I get my way.
