This month’s story-inspired treat for my horror & suspense book club. My first attempt at making decorated cookies. I learned that brown is hard to make with primary colors. And that it takes a lot of red to make red.

Santa brought 8 a @duffgoldman.bsky.social #Baketivity kit. The bake along tutorial made it so easy for her and now she wants all of the kits. I also want her to have all of the kits. So I can eat them…

We told the kids that when we got into the new house we would consider getting a second dog. But definitely not a herding breed or a puppy.

So anyway, I took the kids out for lunch yesterday and we came home with a corgi/heeler mix puppy.

Crushed it.

I set a goal in 2024 to read 12 novels for me (not my kids) & am excited that I outdid it. Also yes, it does annoy me that I didn't finish just 1 more book to make my picture even. And yes I did try speed reading my current book to even it out (but didn't make it).

Merry Christmas 🎄 from me and my first ever attempt at a Yule log cake. Catch me next season on #GBBO 😂.

The Internet tells me that if I want to increase engagement I shouldn't post in the early morning or on weekends.

In totally unrelated news, it's another Sunday and time for #KidLitSundayScaries. Who's in?

This holiday season I’m reminiscing about this excerpt from @medenkuyatt.bsky.social’s GOOD DIFFERENT that is so relatable at any age.

May your loved ones get you something other than obnoxiously scented lotion (or candles) this year 🎁

Sunday is right around the corner. Light some fall-scented candles, grab the Ouija board, and play some eerie lo-fi tunes on YT. Get in the spooky mood and create something fun to share for this week's #KidLitSundayScaries.

My story is already scheduled to post tomorrow -- as Sunday is my sleep in day -- but if you can see this, I'd love for you to join me. There's still plenty of time to create something short and sweet (and spooky, obv 👻).

Tyler Feder's ALL BODIES ARE COOL. The message is generally in a lot of books, but this one is explicit in the story and the art about what bodies look like. We talk about wheelchairs, body hair, stretch marks, artificial limbs, and more. The concrete examples make it so clear that all = all.

Francesca Sanna's ME AND MY FEAR. Her fear is depicted as an imaginary friend, but is explicitly called fear. When she encounters another kid with a similar little friend, it is still labeled fear. No clever names for the fear made it easy for my kids to name it and talk about it.

Turkey? Haven’t seen one. I *have* seen a super robot ice cube monster though…

I used 2 b consumed by a fear of death.
What nightmares lie on the other side?
They told me not to worry & what came after death would b wonderful.
Now that I’m dead, I wish I could go back & say
I was right.
There is nothing good here.
& the nothing good is coming for them all.

Sharing a correction to the rules from my original #KidLitSundayScaries post. That should say 250 *character* limit, not 250 words. 🤦‍♀️ The goal is a micro-spooky story told in one post, not a thread 🧵.

On a totally unrelated note, super glad I don't work in social media marketing anymore...

Wait… were we supposed to stop enjoying ice cream as adults? Me and the three tubs of ice cream in the freezer definitely missed that memo.

Hey #KidLit community (esp #horror writers):

I had an idea for a project to keep my creative juices (ew) flowing. Then I thought it would be even more fun with friends!

Please share to spread the word & consider joining me this Sunday for the inaugural #KidLitSundayScaries!
