Mañana presentaré el tema de mi tesis a los estudiantes de la UIB, en el marco del ciclo de conferencias Víctor Guerrero. Como siempre hablar en público me estresa, pero espero que la charla pueda despertar curiosidad hacia este espacio tan fascinante cual es el bosque Mediterráneo 🥰🌳

This is the first fieldwork that we did in the framework of "Dendrolandscapes" project from the University of Balearic Islands in collaboration with colleagues from the archaeobotany unit of @iphes-cerca.bsky.social, which were conducting parallel experiments regarding fire 🔥

We collected samples from trunks, using a Pressler auger, and 3 discs with different diameter of a branch of the same tree, to study the growth rates of these two organs (trunk and branch) in different growing situations (pioneer tree, understory, pollarded, unmanaged etc.) 🌳🌳🌳

One week ago we were sampling oaks (𝑄𝑢𝑒𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑠 𝑝𝑦𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑎𝑖𝑐𝑎) in the cold and rainy Arlanzón, Burgos. The huge amount of trunk cores and branch discs collected will be used to improve the living-tree referencial dataset of the Iberian Peninsula, for calibrating the existent dendro-anthracological tools
