Not only is cherem not equivalent to the Christian excommunication but I believe it would be bad to use state force to punish someone for “massive idolatry”
I don’t think he got a formal hearing for his numerous acts of endangerment of Jews or massive idolatry (claiming to be the offspring of the Divine and also an avatar of such). No hearing, no status of ex-Jew. Then again the entire narrative of his life may have been a pure fabrication.
