I don’t see you posting on substack either!

@jtcarter.bsky.social this is the kind of sentiment I was talking about!

I don’t think it’s shot in 60fps, it’s just that a few establishing shots with cityscapes gave me that feeling when watching it on my phone.

Maybe because they use a grainy film effect sometimes, which feels mismatched with the camera.

But it’s not a badly filmed movie!

A few things I’m not sure about:

Would the gambit have required him to get to confirmation hearings to work? Or was this the timeframe they envisioned?

Was he a bargaining chip or a smokescreen?

Did he have to resign the house for his name to be put forward officially? If not why’d he do it?

I don’t think it’s the phone’s motion smoothing but The Apprentice movie looked weirdly like a store TV demo at times. Mainly the panning shots.

That he’s got a great shot at being the next president

Maybe they can subsidise the expense by selling arms to Iran. There’s a suggestion for the DOGE

There’s probably a necessity to compete against Spotify, even within iOS so I suppose there’s that.

I still remember the fire you brought to 8th street taproom in 2012. Love and light to you always

I wonder if it’s just that making a cultural impact with the programming isn’t the point, but rather to give people a product that’s better than Netflix or other services. In a fragmented media landscape where buzz isn’t what it was with old HBO, that might make more sense but it’s still ridiculous.

Why do you think they made an exception for Apple Music?

Deep dish is just a bread bowl for a thick soup

This reminds me of an incident I heard about in an African country where I lived as a teenager. A cop shot and killed a taxi driver who didn’t stop for his standard extortion stop and drove off. Afterwards many taxi drivers got together and killed an off duty cop.

It sounds like bad football hooliganism with political gasoline thrown on the fire. All the different ethnicities and cultures and prejudices involved also makes it more complex than it should be!
November 20, 2024 at 6:37 PM
Even an intentionally mislabeled video couldn’t be held as the singular cause of every incident.

To me, looks like some Israeli fans felt provoked by the Palestine demonstrations and some of them provoked and attacked some Amsterdam residents. And vice versa, sure.

But the larger context? Gaza.
November 20, 2024 at 4:57 PM
I wouldn’t take the side of any football hooligans or rioters, but I don’t think you can ignore the context and the provocation and label it a pogrom or antisemitic. Any more than you could call Israel Islamophobic. Maybe many Israelis dislike Muslims but Islamophobia isn’t the impetus for settlers.
November 20, 2024 at 4:30 PM
I get the sense that neither the Israeli fans nor the Ajax fans were particularly peace-loving. Both sides easily spurred to violence. A lot of confusion, sure.

But the political context and the fact that the Israeli fans had every intention to provoke still matter.

This doesn’t seem to suggest that there were pre planned mass attacks targeting Jewish people - just that one attack was mislabeled and shared.

I might be missing something in translation. Were taxi drivers never attacked?
November 20, 2024 at 4:21 PM
Do you have a link to a good report/timeline? I haven’t seen any source other than Geert Wilders claim that attacks targeting anyone who seemed Jewish were planned from the outset. It’s hard to find good reporting on this though
