The non-HD Spirit has only Off or Standard, neither option makes a difference. I already have Asmax Z1 arriving today to test against them (same price). It will be interesting to compare head to head. Either Cardo is doing this on purpose to upsell speakers or bad quality control - neither is good.

quiet room, much quieter than any helmet - tested with microphone directly in front of the speakers. Also, I tested the same speakers directly connected to my phone (vs cardo unit) and they performed AS EXPECTED. The card unit was corrupting the sound.

I did not make complaints about tinny sound which is expected and what you describe, I was documenting neutered heavily filtered sound.
November 26, 2025 at 3:40 PM
the test was done by placing microphone on top of speakers. next.

None of your points explain the behavior documented. There is no reason for vocals to be gone from music under any circumstance. Maybe they are faulty, or intentionally neutered. In either case, bad customer experience from a "premium" brand.

Haha, im cw only user :) funny that we picked the same radio and should both be happy with it. Speaks well of the design.

I got mine this week too! I like that it is identical size to qcx mini :)

I ended up ordering one of these from Amazon and love it! The smoothness and print quality is top notch.

Have you considered offering STL files? I might want to reprint mine in PETG-CF for hot summer days. But also, I know that design theft is a real thing, so I can understand why you might not!

I did some PLA testing and the only failure mode is hot-car.

I've had a paddle in California sun on a cinder-block, 24/7 for a hot week. With free-air, I couldn't get it to reach temperatures leading to softening and deformation.

I also considered printing in white or wood-pla - no interest yet :)

As far as open sourcing - its on the table - I won't be making these forever, so eventually I'm thinking of open-sourcing :) [I already have a successor in the works...]

I'm happy to special print one in PETG if you order via cwmouse.com Stripe link and leave a note requesting PETG. I don't have CF, but structurally, the design is already pretty beefy and CF won't make any/much difference in heat resistance. I'm all setup for PETG, but am not offering it by default.

Hi Adam! I'm glad you like it. I have considered offering kits, but getting the assembly process (and design) optimized for time and outcome (even for myself) was a process. I'm worried people would force things, fail and be unhappy with the end-result leaving bad reviews. ...

This was a one off, with APP pigtails glued into the custom design panel and everything wired internally inside a small center-void. I used off-the-shelf volt-meter PCB and USB-charger PCB. This is the only picture I snapped with unit fully wired before being attached to the battery.

To install ADSB-out (in US) it needs to be FAA certified and installed by an aircraft mechanic. This means that the VERY cheapest ADSB-out will cost $2500 installed.

That is 50x more expensive than your RTL SDR rx suggestion.

Adsb is only a tool, just as airband radio and good procedures.

How much does an ADSB out transceiver cost (including install)?

What bbs ansi telnet centric terminal do you recommend for linux?

I found gnome-terminal with ibm-vga9 font, TERM=ansi, 80x25 and ctrl-h on backspace working well for most BBS telnet connections and ansi intensive door games.
