Happy to share my latest work with Ulf Jondelius. It was a blast to be involved in this project, the last one I was leading during my time at Naturhistoriska.
‪@saabalde.bsky.social & Jondelius characterize opsins and phototransduction genes in Xenacoelomorpha, identifying cnidarian-like and lineage-specific opsins.

Later this month I will visit the Asamushi Research Center for Marine Biology, in Aomori, where I will train undergraduate and graduate students in the use of low-coverage genomic data for studying diversity.
I am very excited about this workshop! :-)

Comparison of whole-genome assemblies of European river lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis) and brook lamprey (Lampetra planeri)
We present haplotype-resolved whole-genome assemblies from one individual European river lamprey ( Lampetra fluviatilis ) and one individual brook lamprey ( Lampetra planeri ), usually regarded as…

A new method for trimming alignments in #phylogenomics — PhyIN. It identifies and trims regions with high phylogenetic discord. Able to trim well even on single loci — an advantage for gene tree/species tree studies. #evolbiol #phylogeny 🧪http://doi.org/10.7717/peerj.18504 Some backstory... 🧵
PhyIN: trimming alignments by phylogenetic incompatibilities among neighbouring sites
In phylogenomics, regions of low alignment reliability and high noise are typically trimmed from multiple sequence alignments before they are used in phylogenetic inference. I introduce a new trimming...
