Sports are play. Humans (especially kids) need to play. If saying “it’s cruel to ban a group of already highly stigmatized and increasingly criminalized people from play” ruins society for you, then idk.

Most kids play sports for fun. To be with their friends. To be active. Trans kids (and adults!!) deserve the same, and using the state to discriminate against them is not about fairness. It’s about discrimination.

Hey if you don’t want to recognize the fight for trans rights (and bodily autonomy writ large) as a central struggle in the battle over civil rights in this country in this moment, that’s your choice. But the GOP certainly does, and Newsom (and everyone willing to capitulate) is making things worse

“concerns about fairness in sports” (which I assume is the argument you are referring to here) as it exists and is being legislated today is an astroturfed wedge issue concocted by the Alliance Defending Freedom after losing the fight on marriage equality. it’s just discrimination with a veneer
